Lupercalia can be seen as some kind of Valentine’s Day. It is a witch annual holiday which is a pastoral festival full of lust that is divided in three events: the Matching, the Courting and the Hunt. All three events have their own purposes. The three events are as followed:
The Matching
The young witches in the community are paired with a warlock. In the past the witches of the Academy of Unseen Arts danced in a circle. They were holding a ribbon which was attached to a pole. The young warlocks were sitting on chairs close to the pole. Once the witches were done dancing, they landed on a lap of one of the warlocks. That meant they were a pair! During the Lupercalia of Ambrose Spellman at the Academy there was violin music played during the dance.
The Courting
The pairs, or rather called couples, go wander into the woods during the night. They have a basket containing milk, blood and oysters with them. The blood and milk are for purification. While the oysters are for virility and fertility. Beforehand, the pairs are warned to not go off the path. The first task of the pair is to smear the blood upon each others foreheads, before they wipe it off. Once all their steps are complete, they both lay side by side beneath the moon the whole night long.
The Hunt
The last event is the Hunt. The young witches wear red cloaks and chase the warlock they are paired with through the woods. The warlocks wear a wolf-costume. The witches try to catch the warlock they are paired with. Once they do, they complete the last event of this annual holiday.
