The four friends Theo, Sabrina, Harvey and Rosalind grew up in Greendale and never felt like they really belonged among the popular kids at school. One of the things they loved was to spend time at the Paramount to watch horror movies and then go to Cerberus Books to discuss the movie afterwards.
Theo was bullied a lot before his transition and this is something that all the friends find difficult to deal with. Sabrina and Rosalind can’t stand by and watch and take matters into their own hands. Sabrina initially tried to talk to their principal, but it didn’t work. The only answer Sabrina got was that Theo should change schools because that would solve the problem.
This made Sabrina and Rosalind agree, they would create a support group called WICCA, Women’s Intersectional Cultural and Creative Association. When the group is created, Ms. Wardwell, who is Madam Satan, is one of the sponsors.
It wasn't just Theo who got into trouble, it was Rosalind who got in trouble as well when she suggested that they should read The Bluest Eye, which was considered unsuitable for reading in school according to Principal Hawthorne. Her friends helped her and they found a list of banned books that they were absolutely not allowed to read in school. The friends turned to the school board and the principal was forced to give in to their request.
The Split
For a while, Theo has kept his family secret from his friends, but finally he decides to tell them. His uncle Jesse hasn't been feeling well or in shape to be outdoors since he saw something in the mine when he worked for Harvey's father. He described it as some kind of monster, but no one else has seen anything down there since the miners continued to work there.
When the friends visit Jesse, Sabrina learns that he is possessed by a demon and they need to perform an exorcism to drive it out, but it's not easy. If they do, Jesse won't make it because that's what Madam Satan has told her.
While they're trying to figure out how to save Jesse, the Weird Sisters have found out that they are descended from witch hunters, which means they want their revenge and it's the Kinkle family who will receive this revenge and they kill Tommy Kinkle. When the friends find out, Sabrina tries to use her magic to bring Tommy back to life, but it only creates more problems.
Tommy comes back, but not as himself. He needs to be killed again, which is something Harvey does. This is something Harvey never thought would happen and after this he realizes that he needs to distance himself from anything to do with magic. The situation makes him break up with Sabrina. At first, the group remains united, but when dark magic appears, everyone chooses to distance themselves from Sabrina to protect themselves. Theo found this difficult and reminded them that their friendship was still important.
Change of Name
When an apocalypse approaches and the Dark Lord returns, the four friends need to work together again to fight him. Sabrina, along with her family, will use their magic while Ros, Harvey, and Theo head to the mines to make sure the Hell Gates don't open. They eventually manage to capture Lucifer with their cooperation.
Sabrina's boyfriend, Nick, is trapped in Hell, which makes her decide to try to save him. The three friends decide to help and they head to the Underworld to try to bring him back. This is the first time they call the group "the Fright Club". By facing their most horrible fears and nightmares in Hell, they manage to save Nick.
A Mission for the Fright Club
A carnival comes to Greendale and the friends decide to go there. Theo brings a new friend named Robin as his date. What they don't know at first is that this carnival isn’t what it seems. Behind it all is the Pagans who are using it as a cover-up. They have come there to sacrifice the inhabitants of Greendale in order to awaken their ancient god who they call the Green Man. The Fright Club together with the witches join forces and manage to defeat the Pagans after a number of attempts. Robin belonged to the Pagans, but chose to betray them and he then became a new member of the Fright Club.
