Believed to be the daughter of Edward and Diana Spellman, Sabrina was supposed to be half human, half witch. This turns out to not be true however. As it later is revealed this wasn’t entirely true. The Dark Lord too, had a hand in Sabrina’s conception. Effectively throwing a splash of angel into the mix as well. This is what made her as powerful as she was. Her Dark Baptism only furthering her already lingering magical abilities. Able to summon hellfire to burn the Greendale Thirteen, she was one of less than a handful of witches who ever managed to do so.

"Hell needs a makeover!"
— Sabrina Spellman

Throughout the series, there’s not one, but two Sabrinas. This happens due to her traveling to the past to save her friends and families when Phantasmogoria shows up. One of the Sabrinas remained on Earth, the other opted to move to Hell and take up the position of Queen of Hell. Two versions of the same person existing however, brought its own problems. This came in the form of three duplicate realms threatening to collide. An attempt to right it all, led to the death of the Sabrina remaining in Hell who went by the name of Sabrina Morningstar.

History

Having trouble conceiving a child, two aspiring parents sought out the Dark Lord. As the result of a union between Diana Spellman (human), Edward Spellman (warlock) and Lucifer Morningstar (angel), Sabrina Spellman/Morningstar was born. In order to protect her, she was given a Holy Baptism at the age of only three days old. Her name was signed into the Book of the Beast a day later. Promising her to the Dark Lord once she’d reach the age of sixteen.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be long before her parents ended up in a plane crash. A crash that would take both of their lives with Sabrina, somehow, mysteriously surviving as she was magically transported to her aunts. As both had been around for her ‘baptisms’ (Hilda for the Holy Baptism and Zelda for the Book signing), they were the logical choice to become her guardians. Add her cousin Ambrose Spellman into the mix and you’ve got a pretty clear picture of her childhood.

Before her sixteenth birthday, she became close friends with Susie Putnam, Rosalind Walker and Harvey Kinkle. She also tried to become friends with the Weird Sisters, but that didn’t end up going as planned. For they had very different plans and would much rather torment her for being a half-witch. Someone who had no place at the Academy of Unseen Arts in the future.

Appearance:

Of an average height, Sabrina has a slender and petite figure. Her hair is blonde and wavy, kept short. Usually not reaching past her jaw. Her eyes are green and she prefers to not wear too much---if any, make-up. Her choice in clothes is generally simple and more conservative leaning. She has no issue dressing up for the occasion however.

Upon signing her name in the Book of the Beast, her hair became significantly lighter and her clothing style adjusted to her time spent at the Academy of Unseen Arts.

Eventually, she’d return to her former more simple outfits and her hair returned to its previous blonde after being resurrected by Nicholas and her aunts. Like all witches, Sabrina too has a more ghoulish appearance underneath her human form. This one has more of a grey skin, messed up hair and a noose around her neck.

Personality:

Stubborn and willful would be two very accurate descriptors for the youngest Spellman. This allows her to withstand the worst of physical and psychological torture with surprising ease. Many have tried to break her, but none have managed. She’s fiercely independent and a feminist who supports women advanving in society.

Her loyalty is one of her strong suits, as are her compassion, intelligtence, thoughtfulness and spirited personality. All of this, made her rather popular at Baxter High. Even if it didn’t get her very far at the Academy of Unseen Arts. Her loyalty shines particularly strong in her self-sacrifice to safe everyone and her absolute refusal to not go all out to safe her friends. However, it also shows in smaller ways. Like how she wasn’t able to tell her friends about her real identity as a witch.

Due to growing up amongst mortals, Sabrina is quite different from regular witches who often lack a moral compass and feel superior to humans and familiars. Because of her belief in freedom of choice, she rejected the teachings of the Church of Night almost entirely. It also led to her questioning witch traditions and would find ways around them to the best of her ability.

"Not today, Satan!"
— Sabrina Spellman

Generally talented and almost scarily resourceful and brave---add unwavering support from her family and friends in the mix and it’s no real surprise she ends of developing a bit of an arrogant streak. Making her reckless and leading to bad decisions.

Powers and Abilities

Unlike regular witches, Sabrina has quite an amount of different abilities. Of course, as a witch, she’s able of using magic. Even before her Dark Baptism, she shown some skill, but this was still largely subdued. It wasn’t until after she signed her name that her powers really set in. Easily making her powerful enough to be able to summon hellfire.

Ascending as the Herald of Hell, she gained the power of resurrection. Allowing her to resurrect the dead without having to use a spell or make a sacrifice. She easily resurrected Melvin and Elspeth and easily killed the angels responsible for their deaths. On top of that, she shown to possess great healing powers when she heals an enchanted wound and restores her friend’s eyesight using just water. Her ascension gave her the power to control the weather and transport objects through space as well as time.

That wasn’t all she was able to do however. Immobilizing extremely powerful enemies, she’s shown to be able to manipulate memories too. Making her friends forget they knew she was a witch at least once. Time travel? Say no more, that too, she is capable of and something she utilizes to safe her family and friends.

Along experimenting with spells, she’s proficient in necromancy and she’s known to help with demonic exorcisms as well. Which goes against the teaching of the Church of Night. Through her familial connection to her cousin and aunts, she can share her tremendous powers and managed to summon a tornado that way.

Relationships

Parents

Due to their early passing, Sabrina does not have much of a relationship with her parents. They were a human and a witch couple---despite him being the High Priest of the Church of Night. In order to conceive, they sought out the Dark Lord for help. She was with them on the plane when it crashed. Her father, Edward Spellman, teleported her out of the plane and to her aunts to keep her safe. Since they died, she’s interacted with them a few times as they appeared as ghosts.

Dark Lord

Also known as Lucifer Morningstar or Satan, he’s one of Sabrina’s biological parents. Something she’s unaware of until it is revealed to her well after her sixteenth birthday. Her birth was part of his plan to start the apocalypse by siring a baby who was human, witch and angel. Sabrina holds no love for this parent and wants nothing more than to be rid of him.

Zelda Spellman

A genuine loving bond, but also one that is complicated by the layer of witchkind. Zelda is often seen being perfectly okay with subject Sabrina is not. Such as sexism and barbaric laws within the witch community. They are both natural leaders and eventually, manage to bridge their differences. Especially as Zelda’s allegiance to the Dark Lord wavers and breaks.

Hilda Spellman

The relationship between Sabrina and her aunt Hilda, is very close. They are extremely similar and share many views as a result of it. Especially when it comes to the customs and traditions of the witch world. Where Hilda chooses to stay quiet and not voice her opinions on these matters, Sabrina doesn’t hide them. Instead, she openly devies anything and anyone if need be. Hilda always protects and supports her no matter what and has in the past, tried to guide Sabrina down the Path of Light instead of the Path of Night.

Ambrose Spellman

Her cousin and someone who often provides her with valuable insight and advice. Especially when she finds herself in trouble and in dire need of someone’s assistance. He’s reliable and possesses a vast knowledge on the world of witch kind. As someone who has been sentenced to ‘house arrest’ as the result of breaking the rules within that world, he knows all too well the consequences of what she’s doing. This is why he tries his best to keep her out of trouble and to protect her. Even if it will end up costing him his own life.

Nicholas Scratch

From friends to lovers, Nicholas had been after Sabrina for a good while. Especially during the time she was still with Harvey. Something she reminded him of quite regularly. Despite this, they remained friends and as she started attending the Academy of Unseen Arts, they grew closer. Spending more and more time together. Their participation in Lupercalia together sets them on the path towards more and they start dating. When it turns out Nicholas was sent her way by the Dark Lord to guide her down the Path of Night instead of Light, they break up. It isn’t until he sacrifices himself to be the prison of the Dark Lord that she finds it in herself to forgive him. They never manage to get back together as he’s simply too scarred from having to deal with containing Lucifer.

"I will never, never again run away from life. Or from love, either."
— Sabrina Spellman

Weird Sisters

Heavily disliked by them, Sabrina is their favorite subject to torment. Often calling her ‘half-breed’ in the early days before and during her time at the Academy of Unseen Arts. Over time however, they become less and less hostile towards her. Eventually, there’s even some hints of genuine care, especially from Sabrina’s side.

Harvey Kinkle

Her high school sweetheart who she remained deeply in love with for a long time. He was the first human she ever told she was a witch. Something she made him forget when it turned out he was nowhere near ready to learn about this. When the amount of secrets she kept from him continued to increase, their relationship eventually started to crack and crumble under the weight. The nail in the coffin came when she tried to resurrect his brother and he had to kill him as a result while relearning the truth about Sabrina’s nature. Despite this, they remain close. Even as they move on with different partners. She performed a cord-cutting spell to sever any romantic ties.

Roz and Theo

Along with Harvey, these two are her best friends. She relies on them and has since they were children. She cared for them greatly and goes to great lengths to protect them. Together, they formed WICCA at Baxter High. This was done to protect fellow girls at their school from others. Sabrina ends up restoring Roz’s sight which she lost after gaining the cunning ability. When Theo transitioned, she embraced this openly and supported him unconditionally.
