Zelda Spellman became High Priestess of the Church of Night when she married Faustus Blackwood, who abandoned his coven after poisoning them following the return of the Dark Lord. After a religious crisis arose, Zelda founded the Order of Hecate.

History

The day Zelda turned sixteen, she wrote her name in the Book of the Beast. She joined the Academy of Unseen Arts and swore her allegiance to the Dark Lord. When she joined the Academy, she was subjected to the Harrowing and when her sister joined the Academy, she made sure that she was also sent to the Harrowing. This was something that made it difficult for her sister during her time at the Academy.

She had always had a special love for babies which made her decide to become a midwife along with her sister. She helped deliver many babies into the Church of Night and was considered the best midwife in their coven.

Sabrina was only three days old when she acted as a witness for her brother by signing Sabrina’s name into the Book of the Beast. She was promised away to the Dark Lord’s service. Not long after, Sabrina’s parents died in a plane crash, leaving Sabrina alone. Her aunts took custody of her, but Diana's family, Sabrina's mother's family, tried to get custody. This was something that Zelda absolutely would not approve of, which made her threaten to rip their faces off if they came near Sabrina again.

Ambrose, her nephew, was arrested for conspiring to blow up the Vatican and he refused to name the people he was conspiring with. He was then sentenced to house arrest on the condition that Zelda and Hilda watch over him. It was like having two children even though they were not her own.

Personality

Zelda can often be seen as strict, but is also a humble witch who cares about the Church of Night. She follows the rules of the church, but if there’s a chance to protect her family by breaking them, then she does it. Something that you may not see very much is that she cares about her sister. She can be very mean to her, but the truth is that her greatest fear is losing her forever.

Although she’s devoted to the Church of Night, there are standards that she has outside the church. One proof of this was that she took away the daughter of Faustus Blackwood because she thought he would kill her. He wanted a son who could take over after him.

It’s usually difficult to see her soft sides, but when Sabrina and Harvey had broken up, she was there for her. She shows an empathetic side, but also that she feels that she needs to protect her as her own daughter.

Relations

Hilda Spellman

Zelda and Hilda have always had a turbulent relationship as sisters. Zelda usually kills Hilda when she gets annoyed with her, even though she’s afraid of losing her. She has also apologized for the suffering she caused Hilda when they attended the Academy of Unseen Arts.

Sabrina Spellman

Zelda has always loved her niece as if she were her own daughter. There’s a constant anxiety in her body when she’s not around and she has very high expectations when it comes to her, even though they have different opinions when it comes to the traditions they have.

When they argue, it’s usually about the Dark Lord, but Zelda has always chosen Sabrina before the Dark Lord. Something that proves this is that Zelda was extremely disgusted when she realized that the Dark Lord wanted to make Sabrina his queen.

Marie LeFleur

At first, Zelda had trouble welcoming her into the Academy to defeat the pagans. She didn't trust Marie because she was Catholic and an outsider she didn't know. It took her a while to learn that Marie really wanted to help them. After they defeated the pagans together, she welcomed her into the Order of Hecate and they kissed.

Prudence Blackwood

Prudence has always had great respect for Zelda and admires her for her faith in the Dark Lord and the Church of Night. She chose to help Zelda hide Faustus' daughter in order to protect her.

Zelda chose to marry Faustus Blackwood and then became Prudence's stepmother. During this time, Zelda showed that Faustus was not someone who could be trusted and that Faustus would let Prudence die if he had to. Zelda was the first person Prudence went to when Faustus poisoned the entire coven. She also asked Zelda to save Agatha and Dorcas.
