Nicholas Scratch is a young warlock and student at the Academy of Unseen Arts. He becomes one of Sabrina's closest allies, even though he made friends with her under orders from the Dark Lord. He developed feelings for Sabrina and eventually helped the Spellmans defeat the Dark Lord.

History

At a young age, he was given a familiar named Amalia who was a werewolf. She was all he had after his family died. Because of this, he grew up as part of a wolfpack, avoiding covens and other people as much as possible. Eventually, the controlling nature of Amalia and the wolves led him to try getting away from the wolves twice. The first time was after he witnessed Amalia murder a mortal girl. The second time he ran away was when he saw the Academy of Unseen Arts. He was able to enter the building while his familiar was distracted, becoming a resident and student. The Academy's rules forbid Amalia from being on school grounds.
 

Nicholas later sacrificed himself to protect Sabrina and her friends, which caused him to be trapped in Hell for a period of time. After he was rescued, he struggled with the trauma of what he experienced, but he continued to fight for the people he cared about.

But if there's even a chance, even a one percent chance that you might one day forgive me and wanna be with me, then I'll wait. "

Personality

Nicholas was confident and smooth-talking.  He often acted as if he knew exactly what he was doing. He was also loyal and protective, caring deeply about the people that he loved, especially Sabrina.  He had progressive ideas compared to the other members of the Church of Night. He had a rebellious side, as well, when it came to rules that he believed were unfair.He criticized witches as not being very good at falling in love, since the Dark Lord is so jealous and wants his followers to love only him. Nick's relationships could also be seen as polyamorous. He was in a relationship with all three Weird Sisters at the same time, for example. When he expressed an interest in Sabrina, and she mentioned she already had a boyfriend, Nick suggested she just date both of them.

Powers

A talented pure-blooded warlock, he was particularly skilled at binding and conjuring. Even in his early years, he was gifted in magic. Nicholas admired the late Edward Spellman who was also considered a powerful conjurer.

Nicholas's other skills included astral projection and teleportation, and he used these abilities on several occasions. As a warlock, he aged more slowly than mortals. However, he did ultimately drown in the Sea of Sorrows.

• Nicholas Scratch does not appear in the original Archie comics.
• He was part of the Baxter High Wrestling Team.
• The name Nicholas Scratch could be based on two names for the devil: Old Nick and Old Scratch.
