One of the perhaps, most influential and revolutionary people ever to have been a part of Greendale's history. He was the High Priest of the Church of Night and the Headmaster of the Academy of Unseen Arts during his life. He is also the father of Sabrina Spellman and the brother of Hilda and Zelda Spellman.

History

Growing up in an all witch and warlock household, alongside his sisters Zelda and Hilda, Edward's life wasn't the easiest. He was still young when he was tormented by a sleep demon. Which he eventually ended up locking away in an Archeron Configuration.

After his graduation at the Academy of Unseen Arts, he fell in love with a girl name Shirley Jackson and managed to work his way up to the position of High Priest of the Church of Night. However, he eventually fell for someone else and broke things off with Shirley.

Unfortunately for Edward, this was a mortal woman by the name of Diana. Which, at the time, was still very much against witch tradition and laws. Eventually, he made a deal with the Dark Lord to be allowed to marry her regardless. The deal was that their first born daughter, would be given to the Church of Night, no matter what.

This prompted Diana to make sure the little girl was baptized in a Christian Church in an attempt to protect her. A day later, Edward wrote her name in the Book of the Beast. Edward would eventually meet his end in a plane crash while on the way to Italy. His death was likely not an accident at all, especially as his intention was to speak to the Anti-Pope to encourage inter-marriage between witches and mortals.

Personality

Despite his alignment with the Church of Night, Edward has always been an incredibly progressive warlock. He strongly believes in equality all across the board. Not just for different species, but for the sexes as well. He brought a lot of change to the Church of Night during his time as its High Priest. Making it much more tolerant and friendly. Barbaric and downright vile traditions were banned.

Abilities

Edward didn't make it to High Priest by just being someone who wanted to change things. He also got there because he was genuinely powerful and someone who learned and mastered new skills really quickly. Including wielding magic as he studied under Faustus Blackwood for some time---before surpassing him. He was particularly skilled in conjuration. Perhaps the greatest the Church had ever seen.

He was also the warlock who wrote an incantation to exorcise demons from humans. Which was against Church of Night doctrine and he was also known for trapping demons. Like the Batibat he dealt with while still young. He was strong enough of a warlock to house the Dark Lord to produce Sabrina.

Fun Facts

• In the original TV show, Edward was famous with his own animated photo in the spellbook given to Sabrina to guide her in her studies.
• His full name is Edward Theodore Spellman.
• He is the younger brother of Zelda and Hilda Spellman
