Lucifer, Satan, Dark Lord, Devil or King of Hell, Lucifer has been known by all of these titles and many more including being Sabrina’s father. This man has a complicated history and relationships with pretty much everyone he came into contact with and was worshiped as a god by the Church of Night.
But just how did he earn the title as Father Lucifer and what happened to him in the Chilling adventures of Sabrina? Read on as we unravel the mystery of Lucifer Morningstar.
Originally Lucifer started off his existence as an Archangel in heaven and was created by God, he had beautiful wings but had quite the disagreement with his own ‘father’ whilst in heaven. As punishment he had his wings torn off his back and was cast down to earth by God and was left to wander alone. He encountered Lilith in the desert and she helped him to heal his wounds on his back and in exchange for her service he promised to have her sit beside him on the throne one day.
Lucifer became more corrupted and became the King of Hell and his beautiful angelic form started to change into that of a beast, most commonly known as taking on the form of a humanoid goat. He was able to grant powers to those who would serve him which we know as witches. Lucifer wanted to fill the world with corruption and gain control of human souls to fill the world with sin and evil.
The Dark Lord has many powers and abilities, much more than your regular witch and these include telekinesis, control and manipulation of elements, animal control and can read minds and implant thoughts into the minds of others. Not only can he do all this but he can also possess people when he wants.
A very dangerous being is the best description one can give of Lucifer Morningstar and ultimately he tried to bring around an apocalypse when he fathered Sabrina.
When one wants to have a child we assume it is because they will love and cherish that child and help it to grow up to be the best they can be. Whilst some of this may be true for why Lucifer became Father Lucifer, his reasons were much more selfish than one may even begin to imagine.
Sabrina’s parents Edward Spellman (warlock) and her mother Diana Spellman (mortal) were not able to conceive a child and so they went to Lucifer for help in conceiving one. He agreed to help them but this was only so he could pervert the Holy Trinity and bring about a child with witch, mortal and infernal blood in order to cause an apocalypse so he could rule the world and took possession of Edward Spellman to sire Sabrina, thus becoming Father Lucifer.
Although Sabrina’s conception was done for selfish reasons, we actually do see father Lucifer come to care about Sabrina and this is especially clear when Sabrina splits herself into two Sabrina’s, Sabrina Spellman and Sabrina Morningstar.
Sabrina Morningstar stays in hell to become the new Queen of Hell just as Lucifer wanted but when she meets her untimely end he is very upset about it and pretty much starts a war with hell and the mortal world just so he can get his ‘daughters’ body back from Sabrina Spellman.
This is probably one of the most complicated relationships in the entire series, Lucifer and Lilith. As we covered before Lilith helped Lucifer to heal his wounds on his back and in exchange he said he would have her sit beside him on the throne one day. Lilith was highly devoted to the Dark Lord and was the first witch, she has a lot more stronger powers than the average witch and can walk in dreams and all sorts of things.
When we first meet her in the series Lucifer has given her the task of making sure Sabrina Spellman signs the book of the beast and this is what Lilith tries to do. However she soon learns about Sabrina being Lucifer’s daughter and that he is trying to make her Queen of Hell and have her sit as his side instead of Lilith. In learning this Lilith changes her plan and tries everything to make sure she still gets to be Queen of Hell, even completely betraying Lucifer and his wishes.
Lilith gets the spear of Longinus and mortally wounds Lucifer in the back where his wings used to be and eventually she does become the Queen of Hell after beating Lucifer and banishing him out of hell
It’s doubtful that Father Lucifer will be winning any Dad of the Year awards regardless of how he may have shown some care for his daughter Sabrina.
Lucifer’s own selfish actions are really what led to his demise at the end of the series, he absolutely had it coming by betraying Lilith’s trust, someone who was wholly devoted to him for thousands of years. Although his own arrogance, actions and selfishness are his biggest weaknesses, he did have a few others such as being injured and contained by damascus steel, the spear of longinus ( the only thing that could actually kill him) and the Daggers of Megiddo.
Did you know that he also had an aversion to onions and horseshoes as well? So much so that the Spellman family were able to keep him at bay when he came to attack them.
