Nick Scratch: The Ultimate Sacrifice
Taking it all the way from someone who opposes Sabrina in order to get close to her, to perhaps one of her closest and most trusted allies, Nicholas Scratch is quite the intruiging character. Perhaps not the most liked, but one has to admit, that without his presence within the show, things might've gotten stale real quick as he does add a certain flair to it. But who is he really and what does he have up his sleeve? We'll be taking an up-close and personal look into Nick today. Whether you love him or hate him!
Growing Up
Born into a pure-blooded family of witches, Nick always had a talent for magic. This led to him having been gifted his familiar, a werewolf by the name of Amalia pretty early on. All would've been well enough, if it wasn't for his entire family finding an untimely death when he wasn't yet old enough to truly care for himself. With just Amalia left, it should come as no surprise the two grew incredibly close. So close, he lived with her and other wolves for a period of time.
Running with Wolves
It is important to note that the time after losing his family was quite possibly Nick's most difficult period in life. To say he fell in with the 'wrong crowd' would not be cutting it, considering he became a part of a wolf pack, as a witch. Despite them and especially Amalia trying to keep him away from mortals and witches alike, it was his curiosity that ended up getting the better of him. That this would lead to some pretty serious repercussions, was something no one could've predicted however.
His first attempt at befriending someone of his own kind ended with Amalia tearing the poor girl to shreds. Which resulted in Nicholas swearing to never to near human kind ever again. Clearly, that didn't end up lasting as we've already established considering his relationship with Sabrina. Probably for the better, as his life amongst the wolves would've been a very lonely one.
Attending the Academy of Unseen Arts
Eventually stumbling across the Academy of Unseen Arts. Nick would find that without the constant supervision of Amalia, his curiousity would once more, get the better of him. He attempted to escape, but was caught by his familiar to which a physical fight followed. Barely getting away alive, he ends up finding his way to the academy and enrolls there. Something that turns out to be both a blessing as well as a curse. His time mostly spend reading or sleeping around it comes as no surprise he becomes a great admirer of Edwards Spellman and thus, approaches those surrounding Sabrina, the man's daughter.
It turns out to be rather easy for Nicholas Scratch to befriend the teenage girl. From the get-go however, it is clear he wants more out of the situation. His advances get turned down initially, this slowly changes once Sabrina starts her education at the Academy of Unseen Arts.
Nicholas Scratch and Sabrina Spellman
After sharing their first kiss and taking part in the celebration of Lupercalia together, they start dating. Much like any relationship in the show, it doesn't go as smoothly as one would like to believe. Especially not as Nick had prior, been tasked with leading Sabrina down the Path of Night when her time came to sign her name in the book. Something she, needless to say, doesn't take too kindly too finding out a little while into them dating. Their relationship on the rocks, Nick offers himself to be Lucifer's prison in an attempt to fix things. After that entire ordeal is settled however, it is him who ends up breaking up with Sabrina and the two decide to remain close friends.
A bittersweet end
While their relationship and friendship has seen many ups and down, they find their way back together after working through their problems and fighting evil along the way. When Sabrina sacrifices herself to save her friends and family, Nicholas can't imagine a life without her and drowns in the Sea of Sorrows to be with her in the afterlife.
