Faustus Blackwood: What Goes Up, Must Come Down

What goes up must come down again and in this particular man's case, the downfall came a whole lot sooner than even he anticipated. Before that however, Faustus Blackwood had been up to a whole lot, so let's take a deep dive into what this man exactly stood for as well as what he did and-- didn't, accomplish.

The Very Beginning

There's unfortunately not much known about Faustus' very early beginnings. The first information one can find on him, is the fact that he was a mentor to Edward Spellman and also the exact reason why this warlock would go on to become everything Faustus was not. Something the latter, as a ridiculously old fashioned and sexist warlock, could not stand in the slightest.

There's reason to believe he, in fact, had at least something to do with the passing of both Edward and Diana as their plane crash was definitely not an accident. Especially if you keep in mind he was the one to take over from Edward, who was, at the time, the High Priest of the Church of Night.

Married to Constance Blackwood, it was no secret Faustus always wanted to have kids-- most importantly a male heir, for himself. She however, miscarried twice before eventually successfully carrying twins to term but unfortunately passes while giving birth. Faustus then sets his sight on Zelda in order to get close to Sabrina.

It's no secret the man was involved in some extra-marital affairs with at least one illegitimate child as a result. Prudence Blackwood.

His Time as High Priest

Completely turning the Church of Night onto its head after their previous rather progressive High Priest died, Faustus Blackwood sounded in a whole new (or should we say old) era. Not only bringing back the Feast of Feasts which had previously been abolished, but also strongly believing in male supremacy.

During his time as the High Priest, he had no issues abusing his position of power to the fullest. Not just bending the rules put in place for his own personal gain and pleasure, but manipulating and coercing others into things against their will. At times even resorting to violence if he doesn't get his way.

Judas Society

During his time as the High Priest of the Church of Night, Faustus formed the Judas Society. An extremist faction that followed the Five Facets of Judas, in an attempt to regress the coven back to the 'good old days'. Needless to say, the society consisted solely out of warlocks, not a witch in sight.

His vision and ideas however, wasn't well received by the Churches of Darkness, the collective of covens of which the Church of Night had been a part. Instead, he decided to break them away from that collective and ended up reforming the Church of Night as the Church of Judas. Thus enforcing the Five Facets of Judas, onto everyone.

Needless to say, this didn't last very long as a good portion of the coven turned against him. No surprise, when witches are suddenly told to serve warlocks, while more than fifty percent of the coven were witches. So-- Faustus decides to poison each and every one of them and makes a run for it. 10/10 leader.

The Beginning of the End

Faustus fleeing the Church of Night marks, without a doubt, the beginning of the end for this man. But as all villains, he doesn't know when to give up. Having abandoned not just the Church, but the Dark Lord as well, he needed protection against the likely repercussions. Queue his next mistake.

Pilgrims of the Night Church

Founding another church, Faustus Blackwood turns his sight to something perhaps quite a bit older and more powerful than the deity he previously worshiped. Setting himself up as 'Father Lovecraft' of the Pilgrims of the Night Church and as a servant to the Eldritch Terrors.

Setting them on Greendale in an attempt to get his revenge, his plan unfortunately (or fortunately) ends up being thwarted thanks to the many other inhabitants of Greendale who do not wish to see their town or the entire planet for that matter, erased.

Immortal due to carrying the Mark of Cain, this might be the only reason Faustus ends up surviving the entire ordeal. Forced to help out the other side to avoid the Void and deter an impending doom for all realms in existence, the man eventually meets his 'end' at the hands of his own illegitimate daughter.
