Miranda Otto: A Powerful Actress

Zelda Spellman, the matriarch of the Spellman family, a force to be reckoned with and someone who always puts her family first no matter the cost. In this article we will be talking about the amazing woman behind Zelda Spellman, Miranda Otto.

Who is Miranda Otto?

Miranda is an Australian actress who was born on December 16th 1967. Acting seems to have run in the Otto family as both her parents, Barry and Lindsey were also actors as well as her half sister Gracie.

Acting was not always something that Miranda had wanted to do, there was a time when she wanted to become a ballerina, but unfortunately she has a medical condition which made her unable to fulfil this dream, moderate scoliosis.

Not being one to let her condition stop her, she developed a keen interest in acting through her father and achieved her dreams at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. After appearing in several plays at the Nimrod Theatre she caught the eye of a casting director and revived a role in a World War 2 drama.

Miranda married in 2003 to Peter O’Brien and together they have one child.

Miranda Otto’s other roles

Otto began acting at the age of eighteen years old and needless to say she has a huge filmography below her belt and still continues acting to this day.

She has appeared in all sorts of television shows and movies and she has also appeared in a lot of theater during her younger years.

Her most famous roles and movies among the huge filmography would be Emma’s War, What lies beneath, Homeland, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and perhaps the most famous of all is the Lord of the Rings series where she played the role of Éowyn.

Miranda received a few awards for her role in the Lord of the Rings movie series for best supporting actress.

Zelda Spellman

Zelda Spellman was one of the best portrayals of the character that anyone could have asked for. Miranda absolutely smashed this role by bringing the authoritative, sassy, sarcastic, loving and amazing nature of Zelda Spellman to life on screen.

She was one of the main cast in the chilling adventures of Sabrina and some would describe as being the head of the Spellman family. Regardless of how much she and her sister Hilda fought, Zelda always stood up for her family first and even against the Dark Lord whom she was truly devoted to.

During the series we saw Zelda unalive her own sister multiple times for when she annoyed her but she always brought her back to life afterwards. She was so devoted to the Dark Lord and tried her best to steer Sabrina towards the Church of the Night, but when Sabrina was in trouble, she stood up for her and tried to fend off the dark lord himself.

Once Father Blackwood was defeated, she turned the Church of Night Coven towards Hecate and took over as the Head Mistress at the Academy of Unseen Arts.

Where is she now?

Miranda is still working on lots of movies and television shows to this day, however she is living mostly in Australia with her family and trying to have a healthy family life with her daughter.

Whatever role this woman brings to the table and onto our screens, we all know that it will be simply spectacular and we look forward to seeing her in more movies
