Lachlan Watson: Pushing Boundaries

It takes a lot to take on a role as complicated as that of Theo Putnam. A role not just about everyone can take on or portray accurately. Yet Lachlan Watson, managed to do just that. But who are they really and where did they come from? In this article, you'll find out all about them!

The Origin Story

Born in 2001, on April 12 to be exact, Lachlan Watson actually got into acting at a very young age. As a child, they did so at the Burning Coal Theatre, as this was where their mother worked. Not much later, they became active in the Research Triangle theatre scene. Which is basically the metropolitan area of the Piedmont region in North Carolina.

This ended up landing them a few minor roles on a variety of television shows such as Drop Dead Diva and Nashville and they eventually starred in the Raleigh Little Theatre's production of Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare in 2015.

Rise to Fame

It wasn't until 2018 however, that Lachlan eventually started seeing real stardom. Namely by landing the role of a series regular in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. They were the one picked after a nationwide call for casting where all interested in the role could send in their audition tape.

Theo Putnam

Starring as the transgender character Theo Putnam came naturally to Watson who said to have used their own personal experience. Using this to influence the already written story line of the character to appeal to those who identify with a gender that's different from their biological gender. Watson identifies as non-binary themselves and was, at the time one of the youngest actors in Hollywood who did.

In the show we see how Theo (originally Susie), not just falls in love but eventually comes to terms with his own gender identity. Coming out to his friends and starts life as his preferred gender. The show really shows what kind of struggles one can face when transitioning, without taking away from the main story line.

Career After CAOS

After the massive success of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lachlan Watson went on to voice Fang in the video game Goodbye Volcano High. This was announced at the Sony Interactive Entertainment's online event by the name of 'Future Gaming'. Then portrayed Glen and Glenda in the horror comedy series Chucky, another installment of the immensely popular Child's Play franchise.

Even after the show was over, they continued the characters in the form of a series of sketches. These were then shared on Lachlan's TikTok channel, keeping the characters alive and leaving them out there for the fans to enjoy. They also starred in the movie Y2K, another comedy horror which premiered on March 9, 2024.
