The Cosmic: Horrors from the stars

When we discuss the Eldritch Terrors, it's very clear that all of them are destructive in their own ways. With the Void quite possibly being one of the worst, the Cosmic isn't far behind. Not just setting out to destroy everyone's reality, but to have it collide with a self created dupicate cosmos all together. But what is this entity really? If we can even consider it that.

Its Arrival

While it was known there was another Eldritch Terror on the way, the arrival of the Cosmic still at least, to some extent, came as a surprise. So much so that, at first, it is thought they were dealing with something entirely different at first. After all, one would not expect it to start showing parts of Hell into the Mortal Realm and vice versa.

Yes, you read that correctly. Not only did stalagmites from Hell start to come up through the floors of the local high school, Baxter High and some students were teleported to Hell. On top of that, statues appeared all over the place, while at the same time, landmarks and town signs of Greendale itself, started appearing in the realm of fire and brimstone.

Collision of Hell and Earth

It isn't until a visit to the Observatory that Sabrina finds out that Hell and the Mortal Realm are set to collide with one another. This due to the fact that there are currently two Sabrinas in existence and the realms need to be rid of one-- or even both, through this process. Not caring what else or who else will end up hurt or dead in the process.

While the most logical solution seems to simply get rid of one Sabrina, it's not that easy. As a matter of fact, it is Ambrose who comes to the conclusion that it very likely won't solve anything. Because let's face it, it never truly is, is it?

Especially as the realms are already partially overlapping with one another, more needs to be done. Not only do they need to stop colliding, they also need to be pushed farther away from one another again. This to fix the damage that has been done thus far and they come up with a plan.

Separating Hell and Earth

In the end, it is Nick who comes up with a plan to at least gain them some time before the Cosmic permanently causes the two realms to become one. Both realms have magnetic fields, fields that are currently attracting one another. So reversing the realms their polarities, should certainly straighten things out and cause Hell and Earth to repel one another. Right?

Sabrina, Zelda, Hilda and Nick, who all have their homes in the Mortal Realm, end up visiting Hell, while Sabrina Morningstar, Lucifer and Caliban, who are native to Hell, remain in the Mortal Realm. That's where they do their best to use their opposing energies to rectify the current state of things due to the Cosmic, but unfortunately, fail. It appears the two realms are already too intertwined.

Hello, Heaven?

Just when they're about to give up, a startling revelation is made. Not only are Hell and the Mortal Realm threatening to collide, Heaven is also pulled into the mix. Prompting the angels to intervene and suggest for the two Sabrinas to merge. Which is a quickly agreed upon plan. It isn't until they are about to start however, that they finally realize what is truly behind all of this. As three more realms are on a collision course with Hell, Heaven and the Mortal realm.

The merge of the two Sabrinas is put on hold, the meddling angel is gotten rid off and as they figure out that the three approaching realms are a duplicate of their own, a final plan takes form. Namely, to send one Sabrina to the approaching duplicate Earth. Which ends up being Sabrina Morningstar after a game of rock, paper, scissors. Ultimately defeating the Cosmic.

But What is the Cosmic?

Dubbed 'horrors from the stars' by Ambrose, the Cosmic is yet another one of the Eldritch Terrors. It's the fifth out of the eight that Greendale is being exposed to thanks to Faustus Blackwood and his cult. This specific Eldritch Terror is based on Cosmicism, also known as the philosophy behind pretty much all Lovecraftian horror.

The general idea behind this philosophy is simply that humanity are insignificant in the large scheme of things. Especially when compared to intergalactic existence. Playing into one's fears of the unknown, especially in relation to the cosmic and all that we do not, or may never be able to, understand.
