Sometimes, characters don't exist in whatever media a tv show is based on. Making them specifically created for the purpose of making the story-line fit a different format better. Ben Button is one of those and not only does he make an appearance in Riverdale, he also makes the cross-over to the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Making him one of the few characters that do. Not just that, he was the first to appear in both!
Surely you haven't missed the similarity between the character's name and the character in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. While not explicitely stated, it is very likely the name chosen was, in fact, a reference to said character. But obviously, that's not what Ben is all about, as there's so much more to him than first meets the eye. Not only did he work as a concessionist at the Twilight Drive-In, he also worked at Bijou throughout high school.
Music class certainly seems to be where it's at in Riverdale. Not just for Archie Andrews, but Ben Button as well. Both teens having a rather unusual for a teacher and her students. But that doesn't seem to stop them regardless. So much so, that it continues after the music teacher by the name of Geraldine Grundy, is forced to move to Greendale.
The fact that Ben doesn't seem to make great choices when it comes to who he chooses to hang out with, becomes even more evident when he ends up being a part of some ritual. Not only is he found unconscious in the woods, but there's marking all over the skin of his back. He remains in a coma after being brought to the hospital.
While in a coma, more light is being shed on the circumstances that led to him losing consciousness. It turns out, it was all part of a challenge from Gryphons and Gargoyles that led him to do what he did. He eventually awakes and learns of the fate of the guy who joined him in this challenge, he decides he wants to join him in the afterlife.
Ben Button might not appear in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina a whole lot, but he does leave a lasting impression as 'that pizza delivery guy'. Yes, he very much is the one that delivers a pizza to the home of Mary Wardwell. Also known as Lilith, who is actually posing as the woman at that time. Where Ben found his end by leaping out of a window in Riverdale, it is insinuated that he might've fallen victim to the mother of demons here.
Mostly your usual average guy before the death of his music teacher, Ben primarily sticks to himself afterwards. To the point that even his mother would go on to describe him as an odd kid. This all seems to escalate when he befriends Dilton that summer. This leads him to becoming rather secretive and avoidant during the time leading up to his coma and eventual death.
