The Endless: A Massive Throwback

Being the seventh out of the eight Eldritch Terrors Greendale is forced to face, this one is perhaps the most interesting and nostalgic to the slightly older folks amongst us. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good throwback to the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch and then some?

What is the Endless?

In the Chilling Adventures adaption of the Endless, it shows itself as the original animatronic version of Salem that we've grown to love so much throughout the Sabrina the Teenage Witch series. Having turned its own cosmos into a film set. Here, it murders any members of the cast and crew for nothing more than its own entertainment.

As the Endless, it's heavily tied to the Void, the eight Eldritch Terror who will soon follow. According to the Endless itself, they've always co-existed and are polar opposites, yet the same at the exact same time. After all, it's endless whereas the Void ends all.

On The TV Set

When it's first told by Sabrina Morningstar that the Void is coming, this is why the Endless initially doesn't agree that it poses a threat. However, its denial quickly comes to an end when it realizes that the script it's been using for its tv show, comes to an abrup end on page 29. Right when the Void arrives.

This is where the Endless, who still appears as animatronic Salem, agrees to deviate from the script in an attempt to stop the Void. Unfortunately, it turns out that everyone present on the set, the entire cast and crew, are nothing more but servants to the Void. Leading to them attempting to escape.

Quite Powerful

As the Endless is one of the Eldritch Terrors, it has quite a few tricks up its sleeve. Like the ability to manipulate reality and it simply loves wreaking havoc using this as has been shown many times whenever it ended another cast or crew member's life.

It however, comes in quite handy when Sabrina Morningstar and it are making their escape. Not only does it use its abilities to stop the (original) Hilda and Zelda from chasing after them by giving them a twisted ankle and a sneezing fit, it also turns Prudence and Agatha on one another.

In true Salem style, it has Nick slip on a banana peel before they eventually manage to safely get back to the mirror. Thus avoiding the Void by just a hair.

The Inspiration

While it is more than obvious the main inspiration for the Eldritch Terrors in general was Lovecraft's work, the Endless didn't just come into existence right then and there. Instead, the idea and the name of this 'being' hails from the horror film with the same name. Thus being a slightthrow back to that particular movie.

At the same time, the appearance of the Endless in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is one gigantic throwback to Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Not only does it bring the animatronic Salem back to life, Hilda and Zelda are also portrayed by their original actors, Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick. Talk about nostalgia!
