Sometimes, things aren't as straightforward as you might think. Or as simple, really.

Sometimes, you go into an investigation expecting absolutely nothing and it turns out to be one of the most terrifying experiences. Other times, the exact opposite turns out to be true. You really don't want to know how many locations we've visited that have been a huge disappointment.

At the same time, there can also be unassuming houses and weird occurrences that are tied to the most ordinary of people.

Which is the case I'll be covering this time around. As no one would've thought this man, in his late thirties, would end up in a situation as the one he found himself in.

Having moved a few years ago, after divorcing his cheating wife, he found himself in an unassuming little fishing town. Landlines and cellphone services were already quite unstable at best within the town. For those living outside of it, they could go without any services at all, for months at a time!

You probably already guessed it, this man- let's call him Jim (not his real name, obviously), lived quite a bit outside of town.

Everything went well, he was able to work from home easily, as a writer. The seclusion actually was absolutely perfect to get the creative juices flowing. On top of that, he became good friends with the couple living 'next door' and even found himself a new love interest.

Then, one night, a storm approached.

Nothing out of the ordinary in that area and nothing they hadn't prepared for. Life continued as normal and Jim, who had agreed to a dinner over at the neighbors that night, went on his way as usual. Joining them for dinner, having a few drinks, you know, the usual.

However, it was what happened right before he left the house, was what was really baffling and would end up setting the tone for things to come.

Because before he walked out the door, he was told to 'don't leave the house, Jim' by a voice, seemingly without a source. Which was odd, as he could absolutely place the voice. It was that of his lover, but she wasn't there. So what could it have been?

He decided to pay it no heed and left anyways. Only to return later after the storm cut off the power.

However, that was when things started to go wrong. A lightning strike had caused a tree to fall and block the road back. Now everyone knows not to go out in a thunderstorm, but Jim thought nothing of it.

Instead, he did get out and I'm sure you can already tell where this is going.

Lightning ended up hitting him.

Miraculously he managed to survive, but that's just the beginning of everything that could possibly go bad in a life that had previously, seemed perfectly normal.

Now, this entry's already getting quite long, journal. I think I gave you a good idea as to what kind of backstory we received in regards to this investigation. I promise, I'll be going into the details of what happened while we were around next time!
